As part of Labor’s national conference, the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union has called for a radical agenda of:
A wealth tax on income and assets. According to them, the economy is “rigged in favour of private wealth”
An inheritance tax to prevent the “intergenerational concentration” of wealth
A gas tax
Barnaby Joyce’s bizarre outburst
On the ABC, Barnaby Joyce shouted “SIT DOWN!” to what he said was his dog. The clip has gone viral online. Other highlights of the interview:
The interviewer Sarah Ferguson said not to worry about the dog and just focus on answering the question, to which Barnaby said “don’t be rude Sarah or this interview will grind to a halt.”
Barnaby defended Pauline Hanson, her recent vacation and the support she receives from from Gina Rinehart. He says it’s just like how the “union movement is on the Labor party side.”
New corruption revelations in Victoria
As part of the Metro Tunnel, the Vic premier authorised a $837 million taxpayer payment to Big Build companies who threatened to sue the government.
This led to a 200% increase in costs for the stations, including at State Library which increased by $266 million
The Big Build companies threatened to sue in what looks like a form of blackmail, as suing would expose the CFMEU cost blowouts
The premier continues to blame inflation and resist calls for a royal commission
Senator Alex Antic could be kicked out of Liberal party
There is a growing rift between the Liberals and Senator Alex Antic, who has praised One Nation senator Malcolm Roberts as a “clear thinker” and “decent bloke.”
This could lead to the senator being expelled from the party or the senator moving to One Nation
