Good morning,
It’s Thursday, 20th of August.
Here’s what’s happening in the world of Auspol:
"Labor liar": minister's slip-up
Labor ministers insist rents will not rise
“Don’t forget the positives” Chalmers says
NSW premier defies federal Labor on tobacco excise
Labor continues super scare campaign, begs for donations
"Labor liar": minister's slip-up

Labor minister Amanda Rishworth accidentally said in parliament that “this government closed the Labor liar loophole.”
She then corrected herself with the phrase “labour hire loophole.”
A slip of the tongue! Or a moment of honesty…
Labor ministers insist rents will not rise
Despite reports by NAB that were confirmed by property giant Ray White suggesting rents could rise by 30%, Labor ministers continue to reject this.
Housing Minister Clare O’Neil said this was “incredibly embarrassing for the opposition,” as she accused the opposition of spreading “mistruths”
“Don’t forget the positives” Chalmers says
Treasurer Jim Chalmers is urging Aussies to look at the economic positives, the bright side of our economy.
He says “there’s a tendency to talk down the Australian economy… we’ve got a lot going for us.”
This is despite record low living standards, high inflation and low productivity. The majority of Aussies aren’t seeing any cause for positivity
NSW premier defies federal Labor on tobacco excise
There is ongoing debate over Australia’s high tobacco excise, which has led to a black market:
The Liberals are contemplating an 80% cut in the tobacco excise, which is suported by economists and One Nation’s similar call
NSW premier Chris Minns agrees, saying the excise was not working as intended and was “really a source of funding and opportunity for organised crime”
Labor continues super scare campaign, begs for donations
Labor members have received messages asking for donations, claiming super is under attack by the opposition
It reads: “It’s Jim Chalmers here. I'm only texting supporters we know we can count on, so I'll be direct. Andrew Bragg wants to scrap your super and Pauline Hanson's backing him. Labor built super. I won't let them tear it down. Chip in $41 now to help us reach Australians with the truth.”
See you tomorrow,
