Labor ministers condemn ABC
Labor ministers are now condemning the ABC for airing a violent joke about turning Gina Rinehart’s insides into a “sausage roll.”
Assistant Defence Minister Peter Khalil said “that kind of violent imagery and that misogynist imagery should not be accepted”
Minister for Women Katy Gallagher said “it is never appropriate to use threats of violence against women as entertainment”
Health Minister Mark Butler said “why do we see rubbish like this… this sort of material shouldn’t be on TV.”
“Just the beginning”: house prices plummet
The housing market is officially in a downturn in Australia’s capital cites.
So far, Australia’s property market has lost $230 billion in value
Former NAB chief economist Alan Oster predicts property prices will fall by 10-15%
Labor minister Tanya Pilbersek claims this is the best time for first-home buyers, prompting a fierce response from Matt Canavan on live TV: “How in the hell can you sit there and say this is the best time to be a first-home buyer?”
Pauline Hanson bans ABC, The Guardian
Announcing candidates for Victoria’s upcoming election, Pauline Hanson banned the ABC and the Guardian at the press conference.
Hanson said “I’m not putting up with the spin, gotcha moments, wanting to have a go at me”
Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young hit back, “Pauline Hanson is showing herself to be a political coward by hiding from certain media because she doesn’t like questions from journalists”
The Media Freedom Alliance has also commented, saying “One Nation is directly weakening our democratic system”
Petrol prices climb
Petrol prices have increased to at or above $2 a litre in the majority of Australia’s capital cities. This comes after Labor ended the fuel excise cut.
