Labor minister confronted for destroying economy

Senator Bridget McKenzie confronted Labor minister Amanda Rishworth on live TV:

  • “You’re not cutting spending. You’re taxing Australians, and small businesses are going under… the biggest drop in living standards in the developed world… Your lack of economic credentials is embarrassing”

  • In response, Labor minister Amanda Rishworth claimed the Coalition wanted to cut Medicare, which McKenzie labelled a “scare campaign”

Liberals call for national crackdown on corruption

Shadow Treasurer Tim Wilson says “what started in Victoria has now been replicated nationwide”:

  • “The model from Dan Andrews has been taken by Anthony Albanese to Canberra”

  • Wilson says people needed to be “thrown into jail”

New inflation figures

  • Inflation for June rose slower than expected

  • As a result, markets predict the RBA will not raise interest rates

  • The biggest rise in prices was electricity at 22.4%

  • While Treasurer Jim Chalmers has celebrated the figures, independent economist Chris Richardson says government spending continues to fuel inflation
