Albanese’s former economics adviser Alex Sanchez says Labor’s high taxes and high spending are killing economic growth.
Sanchez says he unsuccessfully tried to prevent Labor from changing capital gains tax rates
He says he tried to promote other reforms like lowering personal and corporate tax
He says the “creeping government has made them scramble for revenue,” such as recent tax increases in the 2026 budget
Hastie concedes he could lose seat

Labor criticised for being “anti-business”
A new survey of Australia’s top business leaders reveals just 1.6% believe Labor is working “very well” with business:
More than half say Labor’s budget would negatively impact productivity
More than 60% say Labor’s relationship with business is worse and that government is not listening

Labor set to fix “widow tax”
Labor has announced concessions for new divorcees and widows who will be able to maintain their tax concessions.
This comes after the 2026 budget exposed Aussies to losing their tax concessions if they divorced or became widowed.
